Bassa to Get Pipe Borne Water

Assistant Superintendent for Development, Adonie Z. Greaves

Grand Bassa and 5 other counties including Margibi, Lofa, Bomi, Grand Gedeh, Nimba and Bomi under the Liberia Municipal Water Project (LMWP) for the first time since the end of the country’s 17 years civil unrest will each this year benefit modern water facilities.

This developmental initiative which is part of the Liberia Municipal Water Project and sponsored by the United States Aid for International Development (USAID) and the African Development Bank (ADB) will assist local and national authorities in developing plans for water supply, sanitation improvements, thus, implementing short and medium term water supply infrastructure in the six counties capital of which Buchanan is a part.

Under the project strategy, Grand Bassa County Assistant Superintendent for Development,  Adonie Z. Greaves disclosed that the Transition Working Group (TWG), which consists of t he LWSC, MPW, Local Steering Committees (LSC), County Development Superintendents, LISGIS,(MoHSW)is to explore various options and provide recommendations to the Government of Liberia, the respective municipal government of the cities and the LWMP for promoting improved water supply investment and effective management, operation and its maintenance.

The Development Superintendent added that the project is aligned with the National Development Agenda, such as the Agenda for Transformation. He believes that the provision of safe drinking water is in line with good health services, adding that in the absence of safe drinking water, cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, and other water borne diseases will continue to threaten the health of our people.

“Water is life, because we use it in our everyday life. This is not just any kind of water, but safe drinking water that can be used everywhere.” He said.

Unveiling that the county leadership will take ownership of the project, he says that a strategy will be designed by local authority, so that people living outside of Buchanan City too can benefit and feel a part of the development. “We will leave no stone unturned, and we will do all in our reach taping on the county development fund  to ensure that the people of Grand Bassa County get safe drinking water for consumption”, he added. As a matter of major concern, Superintendent Greaves assured citizens of Bassa that as soon as the 5th TWG Conference which is to finalize the project for adoption and signing of LWSC/LWMP and LWSC/Local Community MOUs ends, the project will immediately kick-off.
